It is proposed that the diffuse component of a seismic field be used as a promisingrnseismic exploration tool to identify diffuse cavernosity and fracturing zones – potential oil andrngas reservoirs – in massive rocks. The assumption of "seismic transparency" of massive rocksrn(homogeneous as to their physical characteristics) and the scattered elastic energy responsernfrom micro-heterogeneity development zones (cavernous reservoirs) has been the basis for thisrnapproach. Special data processing methods developed to facilitate detection of the diffuserncomponent and determination of anomalous values in the diffuse component parametersrnpermitted testing the proposed technique on real prospects. The article provides analysis ofrnqualitative and quantitative relationships between the values of the diffuse componentrnparameters and reservoir characteristics derived from well data. The analysis results arernpositive enough to regard the technique worth further development and application.
