Synthesis of Conjugated Materials for Organic Photovoltaics and Luminescence

We report about new syntheses and improvements in the preparation of monomers which are necessary in the syntheses of conjugated organic materials and polymers. First, the synthesis of a phosphorescent iridium containing monomer, such as the 9-(2,7-dibromocarbazol-9-yl)nonan-2,4-dionato-bis(2-phenylpyridine-N,C2 )iridium(Ⅲ) complex, is reported. Second, the preparation of a monomer for Suzuki coupling, the 9-(2-ethylhexyl)-2,7-bis-(4,4,5,5-tetramethyl-1,3,2-dioxaborolan-2-yl)carbazole, was improved and compared with previous procedures. Finally, the synthesis of two silicon containing monomers, the 4-(2-ethyl-hexyl)-4'-octyl-5,5'-bis-(trimethylstannyl)dithieno[3,2-b:2',3'-d]si-lole and the 2,7-bis-(4,4,5,5-tetramethyl-1,3,2-dioxaborolan-2-yl)-9,9'-bis(2-ethylhexyl)dibenzosilole, based on dithienosilole and dibenzosilole structural unit, respectively, was proposed. The synthesis of silicon containing polymer, poly[4,6-bis(3-dodecyl-thien-2-yl)thieno[3,4-c][1,2,5]thiadiazole-alt-4-(2-ethylhexyl)-4'-octyldithieno[3,2-b:2',3'-d]silole is reported as well.
