This paper is intended as an introduction to molecular sieves and how to use them in gas processing with emphasis on natural gas dehydration. It includes a brief section on the theory of adsorption then shows how this is applied to plant design and plant optimization. The final section is devoted to plant troubleshooting. Its purpose is to make one aware of the concepts used by most adsorption engineers but is not intended to be used as a design manual. Most of the comments in this paper refer to water removal from gas for simplicity but the concepts are valid for many other separations from both gas and liquid phase. A much more comprehensive course is given by the A I Ch E Continuing Education Series and is strongly recommended for anyone interested in this subject.
