This paper focuses on a new field test and a computation framework for inverse modeling of unsaturated air and water conductivity. Due to the aimed applications, the unsaturated air conductivity is of particular interest. The field test consists of water infiltration and subsequent air injection into the soil. The injection takes place via a partly perforated pipe which is drilled vertically into the ground. The field test is meant for silty and sandy soils with low cohesion. A computation framework for inverse modeling of the field experiment is presented. The multi-phase flow simulator TOUGH2 and the optimization software UCODE_ 2005 are coupled for this purpose. Recommendations for the realization of the proposed field test and the subsequent inverse modeling of unsaturated soil parameters are given.
