The inflow of Atlantic Water (AW) into the Nordic Seasrnis of fundamental importance for the Arctic, Europeanrnand global climate. The West Spitsbergen Currentrn(WSC) is a main source of heat for the Arctic, greatlyrnaffecting its sea ice conditions and air temperatures. Thernaim of this study is to analyse the vertical structure ofrnthe current and reconstruct it along its path in 2000-rn2013 using a synergy of data: i) in situ measurementsrncollected along the WSC by the Institute Oceanology ofrnPolish Academy of Sciences (IOPAS) regularly everyrnJuly in 2000-2013, ii) satellite altimetry, and iii) anrninformation about the WSC vertical structure simulatedrnin the NEMO (1/12°) numerical model in the same timernperiod. The preliminary results are presented based onrnthe in situ mooring measurements and geostrophicrncurrents calculated using satellite altimetry.
