This work introduces a novel approach for soil moisturernestimation, based on the measurement of GNSS signalsrnpenetrating a soil volume.rnA model relating soil moisture content (SMC) to thernmeasured soil transmissivity is proposed. Thernmeasurement concept is described and a preliminaryrnexperimental setup is proposed. The feasibility of thernapproach is evaluated through simulations of thernmeasured (‘apparent’) transmissivity as a function ofrnmoisture content, surface roughness and receiving antennarndepth, among other relevant parameters.
