Following the initial molten metal quality studies with thernMetalVision MV 20/20 Inclusion Analyzer1,2,3,4, presentedrnpreviously, the need for more robust molten metal treatmentrnequipment and methods was identified. Elimination of fluxingrngas and improved filtration techniques were identified asrnopportunities. New degassing and cleaning technologies such asrnultrasonic degassing were tested. This paper presents the resultsrnobtained during the initial trials of the ultrasonic SCR Ultra-DTMrnDegasser5. Some unexpected and surprising results led to furtherrninvestigation (theory and confirmation tests), which then led tornmodifications in equipment and further process improvement.
