The benefits of accurate measurement of furnace heel and fullrnfurnace weights are well accepted in terms of increasing % rightrnfirst time batching, increasing productivity and eliminating shortrncasts however the practical realization of a robust system has beenrnproblematic. The development of the BatchPilot system, whichrnhas overcome these difficulties, is described. To date 47 systemsrnare in operation in 20 casthouses world wide and the most recentrninnovations include a fully automated weighing capability andrndown line integration of the output data into the customerrnmanagement data network.
