STUDY ON GRAPHITIZATION OF CATHODE CARBON BLOCKS FOR ALUMINUM ELECTROLYSIS

摘要

High quality graphite cathode carbon blocks require lowrnresistivity, strong resistant erosion to molten salts and liquidrnaluminum in the aluminum electrolytic cells. High quality cathodernmaterials can decrease cathode voltage and then reduce the powerrnconsumption, and improve service life of the cell. Applying hotrnmould technology under 40 MPa pressure, different amounts ofrnpetroleum coke in anthracite mixtures is graphitized inrngraphitizing furnace. By the X-ray diffraction parameters, density,rncompressive strength and resistivity drop are measured. Thernexperimental results show that compressive strength and volumerndensity of graphite blocks containing 30% of petroleum coke arern1.366 g/cm3 and 4.8 MPa, respectively, resistivity drop fromrn114μΩm to 13μΩm, mostly in accordance with block productionrnrequirements.
