Case study on vibration reduction for a condensate vertical pump in the energy plants

A vertical pump which circulates condensate water or coolant to a reactor in energy plants has been exposed to a severe environment such as a heavy volume of suction and discharge, coupling with electromagnetic and mechanical forces. Vibration phenomena in the vertical pump structure are complicated and unpredictable.In order to find the fundamental cause of high vibration in condensate pump, frequency response and operational deflection shape of the pump are measured and analyzed. Analyzed natural frequency is near the operating speed, and this means that a high vibration is caused by resonance.Correction of vibration which is caused by resonance requires a change in the spring rate or mass of the system to stiffen or weaken the pumps. In this paper, a case study of vibration reduction of the condensate pump has been made with design changes. Results are validated through the test after pump installation. results.
