摘要

Gear rattle is a significant contributor to overall noise in low speed, high torque drivelines. Thispaper describes the development of a gear rattle model of a Harley Davidson motorcycledriveline using Ricardo VALDYN. The model was solved in the time domain and includedrepresentations of the engine, mechanical isolator, chain, gearbox and belt drive systems.The method used to make high resolution torsional measurements along the driveline isdescribed. These measurements were used to correlate to the predicted displacements. Asensitivity study is described, which used the model to investigate potential counter-measures toreduce the excitation of gear rattle.
