Reduction of ground vibration in the vicinity of railway has been a major challenge for the last two decades. The increasing number of railway infrastructures close to building leads companies to investigate new ways to mitigate ground vibration. In this paper, the influence of a Horizontal Wave Barrier (HWB) on ground vibration is investigated. This study is performed with an analytical model recently developed which couples several flexural vibrating plates with the ground. Two major criteria will be presented in order to have an efficient wave barrier. This analytical modeling is on one hand an efficient engineering tool for sizing a Horizontal Wave Barrier and on the other hand a flexible tool in order to understand ground wave propagation at the top surface. From the study of the ground mitigation due to the Horizontal Wave Barrier, it can be noticed these barriers represent a promising way to protects building from railway vibration.
