SUSTAINABLE AIRPORT DEVELOPMENT: INVESTIGATING PSYCHOLOGICAL AND HEALTH-RELATED NOISE EFFECTS AND POTENTIAL COUNTER-MEASURES

It is concluded that the noise levels in this study were not related to elevated blood pressure orreduced salivary IgA. Convincing evidence of environmental noise as a causal factor incardiovascular diseases is still missing. However, transportation noise can be seen as one riskfactor among others. Certainly, the relevance of noise-related cardiovascular risks is relativelylow compared to the risk induced by smoking habits and malnutrition. Nevertheless, apotential risk due to noise is not self-determined and moreover could have a strong impact inthe individual case. Therefore, further public and research interest is due in this field,especially with respect to vulnerable individuals, e. g. subjects with high noise sensitivity orfamily history of cardiovascular diseases.
