Picosecond Superconducting Single-Photon Optical Detectors and Their Applications We reviewed the physics and applications of superconducting single-photon detectors. 1. Superconducting single-photon detectors are significantly more sensitive and much faster than their semiconductor counterparts. They find practical applications ranging from VLSI circuit testing to quantum communications.
