Ensuring Flight Safety in a Freshly Deregulated Environment: A Start-up Regional Airline Perspective

The case I shall present to you today concerns the starting up of a small regional airline, Aegean Airlines of Greece, in a recently deregulated environment, following more than 40 years of commercial and operational monopoly. If the factors affecting the case I shall present to you are evident in this environment, that is, in a "western" country and member of the EU, one may easily assume that similar problems might appear in the countries opening up their economies in East Europe or elsewhere. The main purpose of this presentation is to share the experiences of our case in order hopefully to avoid similar confused, problematic and potentially dangerous situations in other parts of the world.
