The pyrolysis of different coal samples at different conditions indicated that the products distribution and product component composition were directly related to pyrolysis condition and coal properties. By using normal pyrolysis method, the sulfur removal from coal is only 15% to 40% and is related to the conversion. The sulfur content in the char from DT, HLGL, PS, YZ or SF coal is lower and that from YM is higher than that of original coal. The different S/C on the surface and in bulk of coal is probably one of the reasons for different sulfur content change. Further work will focus to explore new pyrolysis method based on understanding the coal pyrolysis and sulfur removal mechanism.
