The effects of the reaction conditions on the hydrogenolysis reaction of cation (Co~(2+) or Ni~(2+)) exchanged Adaro coal in tetralin solvent with sulfur promoter were discussed and concluded as below. 1. In comparison with the reactions of the demineralized coal with metallocene complex [(C_5H_5)_2Co or (C_5H_5)_2Ni] at 400℃-440℃, the yields of acetone insoluble constituent decreased the reactions of cation exchanged coals. 2. On the simultaneous reactions of demi neralized and cation exchanged coals, the upgrading of demineralized coal was also enhanced by the catalytic effect of cation in the exchanged coal. Therefore, it is estimated that the amount of coal fed to cation exchange treatment can be reduced by the simultaneous reaction.
