The conversion of n-hexane into aromatic hydrocarbons under microwave irradiation isfirstly reported in this paper. The aromatization of n-hexane over a ZnNi/HZSM-5 catalysthas been investigated using two different heating methods; microwave (MW) irradiationheating and conventional heating (CH). When the reaction system is under the microwavefield, the optimum temperature of the reaction is about 100 K lower than that when the systemis heated conventionally. Under the microwave irradiation, the selectivities to benzene andtoluene, and the sum of BTX increase, but the selectivities to xylene and ethylbenzenedecrease, indicating that the microwave may reduce the oligomerization ability of the strongacid sites but enhance the ability of the dehydrocyclization of n-hexane molecules.
