THE APPLICATION OF TEMPORARY DTM MEASURES TO AID TRAFFIC ADMINISTRATORS

Road maintenance or events can worsen regular traffic conditions on corridors. Dynamic diversions could be a good alternative for spreading the traffic. In different situations in the Netherlands new strategies have been implemented based on travel time information from mobile cameras and the current loop detectors. Using mobile Variable Message Signs strategically deployed, the road users are informed about the current travel time of the original and alternative road. Evaluation studies have shown that this type of information is highly effective and well received by the road users.
