Accessible Route and Area Information Support GISfor All Pedestrians Including the Elderly and the Disabled

摘要

This paper introduces the novel geographic information system(GIS) which providesrnthe accessibility information of routes and areas for all pedestrians including the disabledrnand the elderly. We developed universal-designed database for all pedestrians' needs ofrnaccessibility information retrieval, and collected the data of barrier/barrier-free objectsrnin Koganei City(a commuterland of Tokyo, app. 12 square km) and Higashiyama area ofrnKyoto (a famous sightseeing area, app. 2 square km) by exploring roads. These prototypernsystems are being released on our website, and have intelligent user interface which offersrnsuitable routes to all pedestrians with different physical difficulties and preference.
