Well assessed methodologies are available for the quantitative risk analysis of fixed installations. This is not the case of the transport of hazardous substances. In particular, comprehensive methodologies for the risk analysis of marshalling yards were tank-cars containing dangerous substances are handled still need to be defined. The present study focuses on the development of a methodology for the risk analysis of these installations in the framework of quantitative area risk analysis. A specific methodology, based on HazOp and Fault Tree techniques, was developed to estimate frequencies of non-accident induced releases.
