Computer Simulation of Radiation Regime for Vegetation Canopies

LAI and LAD are the importance parameters of vegetation canopies structure. In the computer simulation for vegetation canopies, the two parameters are considered as the control parameters to render the 3D vegetation scene. In this article, a computer graphics method-Modify Extend Lindermayer-system(MELS) is used to render the architecturally realistic row-planted crop(winter wheat-like) and tree(aspen) canopies, based on the measured structure data of the typical winter wheat and aspen. A radiosity-graphics combined model (RGM) is then used to calculate the radiation regime in a canopy, including canopy directional reflectance and spectrum in visible and NIR regions. In the simulation for aspen, two scenes are depicted, which are pure aspen forest and the mixture of aspen and winter wheat. Then distributions of canopies BRF for two kinds of scenes are analyzed. So we can study forests by using computer simulation method.
