It is essential to consider the geomechanical characteristics of a CO_2-bearing reservoir to assess responses to CO_2 geological storage. Themechanical characteristics of marine sediments containing supercriticalCO_2 are required to simulate the geomechanical response to CO_2injection to sub-seabed layers. In this study, testing methods for thegeomechanical characterization of sandy sediment containingsupercritical CO_2 were developed. Drained triaxial compression testwas conducted for a specimen consisting of sand, supercritical CO_2 andwater. It was found that the specimen containing supercritical CO_2behaves in the qualitatively same way with the water-saturatedspecimen which does not contain supercritical CO_2.
