Forecasting Database for the Tsunami Warning Center for the Western Mediterranean and North-East Atlantic Basins

A model-based tsunami prediction system is developed as part ofthe French Tsunami Warning Center (operational by mid 2012).It involves a pre-computed unit source functions databasecorresponding to tsunami scenarios generated by sources ofseismic moment 1.7·10~(19) N.m. An associated automatedcomposite scenarios calculation tool allows the simulation of anytsunami propagation scenario (i.e., of any seismic moment). Itproduces maps with uncertainties of expected maximum waveamplitude in deep ocean rapidly. Three examples on historicalearthquakes are presented. This forecast system provideswarning refinement compared to the rough tsunami risk mapgiven by the decision matrix.
