The Idealized Structural Unit Method (ISUM) is a simplified matrixmethod for the collapse analysis of large structures. The geometricaland the material nonlinearities are included inside the newest ISUMelement formulation. In this paper, possible modifications of thespecial shape functions especially for high plate slenderness ratios willbe discussed. To embed ISUM in a commercial finite elementsoftware package the degrees of freedom have to be reduced to nodaldegrees of freedom. Therefore the internal degrees of freedom arecondensed out before the iterative solution of governing equationsstarts. The applicability and accuracy of the condensation procedure ispresented.
