The special aspects of vernacular solutions with regards to use of daylight in sunny regions will be investigated in this paper. For centuries traditional shading techniques and devices, methods of sizing openings and many related elements in various forms and configurations, as well as material selection, have been effective strategies for controlling the microclimate of indoor spaces in sunny areas. Sunlight characteristics, glare, overheating and monochrome effects in hot climates present unique problems and constraints. Both the identification of the above problems by traditional architects that exists in natural light usage in this region, and the control strategies and elements that were integrated into the structures by domestic experiences would be explored as a living workshop.
