The Influence of Microstructure on the Mechanical Properties of Reactive Powder Concrete

Reactive powder concrete (RPC) is a new cement-based material developed through microstructural enhancement techniques, it exhibit very high mechanical and durability properties. In this study, the microstructure of RPC was investigated with scanning electron microscope (SEM) techniques. The mineral composition of hydration products, pore characteristics and the phase composition under different age and curing condition were examined. Simultaneously, the mechanical property tests were developed to achieve the basic parameters of mechanical property of RPC. By combining microstructure tests and macro-mechanical properties tests, the influence mechanism of microstructure on the mechanical properties of RPC were discussed, and the basic factor of microscopic morphological structure which effected on macro-mechanical properties were studied. The results of this study could provide reference for material design and engineering application of RPC.
