High Addition of Sewage Sludge in the Raw Meal for the Production of Portland Clinker

The main chemical components of sewage sludge are CaO, SiC>2, A12O3, Fe2O3, and organic substance. The composition makes it possible to use sewage sludge for the preparation of cements clinker. In this paper, the burnability of raw meal with sewage sludge and properties of the resultant Portland clinkers were studied. Clinkers without sludge were also prepared for comparison. The raw meals were prepared and burned at 1300°C, 135O°C, 1400°C, and 145OC in laboratory, respectively. It was found that the free CaO of the with sludge was less than 1% when burned at 1450°C. In the meantime, the shape of alite phase tend to be more regulation. The results of compressive strength indicate that an addition of sludge as high as more than 30% has no negative effect on the properties Portland clinker.
