The objective of this paper is to propose a hybrid structural safety monitoring system incorporating a sensing and analytical modeling system. The structural safety monitoring system for an 8-story, Steel Reinforced Concrete (SRC) building is proposed and discussed. The system is composed of four parts; Sensing, Analytical, Modeling and Display. The sensing system measures acceleration, displacements and strain and could be done at as many points as possible. The analytical part calculates global seismic performances. The responses are computed by spectrum analysis method. Other damage identification modes will also be analyzed. A three-dimensional numerical model is used to analyze the pattern. Data from sensing and analytical parts are used to reconstruct/modify the numerical model, thus, producing analytical results which take into consideration the effects of combined sensing and modeling.
