Blender versus Blowline in MDF Gluing

Since its introduction as a wood-based panel, MDF has seen a dramatic increase in production and demand worldwide. Such a rapid expansion in capacity enforced competition in cutting production costs. This can be accomplished in several ways including decreasing the consumption of resin needed for gluing. The intention of this paper is to display the advantages of dry gluing versus gluing in the blowline. It also shows how dry gluing in blenders can be integrated in the process of MDF manufacturing to reduce resin consumption. The presentation shows that integrated dry gluing is a complex system with many advantages and also some disadvantages.
