Optical network deployment in the access network is one of the most challenges for network providers in the near future. Especially existing network conditions in the distribution cable area are very manifold regarding customer density, building size, existing duct infrastructure...Fiber deployment for mass market (connecting each building or home in a certain area) to a fiber infrastructure will be on of most challenges of network providers in the future. This part of a network is the most expensive part for a fiber 'roll-out'.To enable an introduction of broadband optical or hybrid optical access networks on a large scale, the most important task is to exhaust all opportunities for a cost effective infrastructure deployment with minimum fiber count.In this paper different options for providing buildings with two fibers are calculated and assessed.
