Optical Fiber Cable Designed for Data Center Applications

The growth in size and capacity in the data center has resulted in a need for a cable-connector solution that; provides scalability with 12 and 24-fiber offerings, high density connector terminations, robust cables for system integrity along with a with a high fiber density. This paper presents a tubeless 12-fiber cable and a unitized 24-fiber cable that is specific to the data center application. A general discussion of the data center topology including requirements and needs is presented. A comparison of how different cables meet data center application needs such as connectorization and cable density is then given followed by a review of the new cable design with performance data.
