In this paper we present an overall mathematical model for total fibre attenuation in our installed fibre cables. Field investigations of spectral loss have revealed water peak forms that have been described by three gaussian absorption components. The overall model has been applied to curve fit field OTDR measurements at six different wavelengths in a wide spectrum. Results of mass curve fits from on installed fibre cables from different time periods are presented. The method is used to calculate fibre attenuation statistics at CWDM wavelengths and in the wavelength region 1650-1675 nm.
