Moisture content in the mixture of human waste and sawdust, which is important factor for biodegradation process, should be controlled by drying process. However, the drying kinetics of sawdust for bio-toilet system has never been studied. So, we investigated it for designing the bio-toilet system and planning of its operational conditions using two devices of different size, lab scale equipment and full-scale toilet. As a result, the drying rate is described by mass transport model with adequacy calibration of water-vapor pressure at drying surface for each device. But, the mass transfer coefficient of full-scale toilet is smaller than that of lab scale equipment, because of difference of air flow rate. Then, the drying rate is estimated from operational conditions for the simple design of bio-toilet system from the viewpoint of drying.
