Utilization of Test Results in Automated Ultrasonic Inspection

Ultrasonic inspection is a reliable and widely used method to find surface and interior defects in tubes. In case of manual inspection, performed by a skillful operator, the decision is made by the operator about the required actions once a defect is found. Possible actions include marking the location and length of defect, indicating the type of defect (internal or external), sorting for reject, repair or flawless parts. In case of automated inspection the decision is made by the host computer, based on requirements established by the user. The paper explores the available resources in state-of-the-art ultrasonic inspection instruments.
