Chemical Constituents from Gmelina arborea Bark and their Antioxidant Activity

Introduction Gmelina arborea Roxb. is one of fast-growing species. This species was used as cardiotonic, antidiarrhoeals, and for intermitten fever in a traditional system of Indian medicine. It has been widely planted in Southeast Asian countries. The wood can produce high quality of furniture and good quality of pulp and paper. Chemical constituents from the bark and their activity have not been reported, although some chemical constituents from part of this plant (heartwood, leaf, and root) were known. In this study, we have isolated and identified chemical constituents from the bark of G. arborea collected from Indonesia, and investigated their DPPH free radical scavenging activity.
