Underground gas-storage cavern with water curtain is a huge construction that is in a position of deep underground, and it is generally built in the crystalline rockmass under stable underground water level. Therefore, it puts forward a series of special hydrogeological requirements that are different from other projects. In order to provide a scientific reference for site choice of cavern, a series of characteristics about space distribution of fissure water, water abundance, water circulation, and so on in crystalline rockmass are discussed in detail in this paper, and the site choice of cavern under different hydrological conditions are also analyzed. According to the principles of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) storage cavern with water curtain, the fundamental principles for designing the water curtain or water wall are put forward, that is according to the developmental characteristics of fissure water in crystalline rockmass, and the space distributions of opened fissures, half opened fissures, closed fissures (including slip rift), and so on to design the water curtain or water wall purposefully, and not the equispaced design.
