In arid inland area, water is the key factor for evolvement of ecosystem. The ecosystem need water so that they can carry out their usual function and provide the services human are used to. Four types of ecological water requirement urgently need to research are controllable water demand for water body of river and lake, shelter -forest ecosystem in artificial oasis, natural vegetation ecosystem in natural oasis, and restoration the ecological groundwater depth. The Shiyang river basin located in Gansu Province was selected as the study area. The total ecological water requirement for the three former types was estimated as 0.188 to 0.391 billion m~3. The later EWR for restoration the ecological groundwater depth was estimated as 3.567 billion m~3. Assume that it would spend 20 years to restore the groundwater depth to the ecological depth in Minqin basin, the annual water supplement will be 0.178 billion m~3.
