In arid and semi-arid areas, hydrosphere and biosphere suffer maximal disturbance and impacts of mankind during the development and utilizing processes. These impacts interact with each other and exert hostile effect on the environment. The transformation of the ecological environment depends mainly on the exploitation of water resource, economic development and the relative balance of environment. The variations, distributions and conversions of water resource not only control the distributions and vicissitudes of oases and grasslands but also affect the environmental dynamics. A modeling system to take account all the elements of oasis-hydrosphere-vegetation interaction by Soil-Vegetation-Atmosphere-Transfer (SVAT) process and high resolution water/energy balance is adapted for the Hexi region in order to tackle the complexity and heterogeneity both in temporal and spatial scales of various properties. The results show huge potential in high resolution numerical modelling by providing continuous simulation data in all the four dimensions (spatial and temporal) for the purpose of general regional planning and for the decision-making process.
