Chemical ripeners are extensively used to improve sugar recovery during incline phase of cane maturity and sustaining sugar recovery during late-milling. The technology has considerable impact in areas plagued with poor natural ripening conditions. Based on variety-ripener- weather interaction, it is possible to carve out the most effective and profitable sequence of crushing schedule for an area. In this way, it is possible to take multiple advantage of the benefits of chemical ripening. Commercial use of cane ripeners such as glyphosate analogues, Fusilade Super, ethrel and many others is constantly increasing to improve sugar recovery and industry profitability.
