IESENT SITUATION AND PROSPECTS OF SUGARCANE BREEDING FOR HIGH SUCROSE CONTENT IN GUANGXI, CHINA

Based on the recent years' progress and practice of sugarcane breeding, the text inquires into the investigative relevant problems of sugarcane high sugar content breeding in Guangxi need for new are needed for new technique index and routes for high sugar content breeding. Some progress has been achieved in the breeding of varieties for high sucrose content in Guangxi, CP72/1210, CP80/1018, Guitang73/167, Guiang92/66, ROC20 and as many as 23 high sugar content parents were selected, and more than 60 high sugar content cross combinations such as ROC20xCP72/1210, ROC20xCP72/1210, ROClxYachen71/374, CP1018xCP88/2032, CP82/ 1592xCP89/2143 were made and used in the breeding program; six promising high sugar content clones including Guitang00/245, Guitang00/172, Guitang00/173, Guitang00/257, Guitang00/122, Guitang94/11 were bred in recent years. But many problems, such as the linkage between high sugar and low output characters, narrow parent consanguinity, lacking gene markers for selection, need to be solved in the progress of high sucrose breeding program.
