Shaking History Effect on Seismic Response of Single-Pile Foundation in Liquefiable Soil

摘要

The paper presents seismic responses of a single-pile foundation model subjected to a series of shaking events. The experiments were carried out on the biaxial shaking table mounted on HKUST (The Hong Kong University of Science & Technology) centrifuge under a centrifugal acceleration of 30 g, and the model consisted of a uniform saturated sand layer of 40 cm, in which an aluminum model pile was embedded. The results indicate that small vibration brought beneficial effect to free field soil in terms of increasing its liquefaction resistance to future shaking; however, the shaking-induced cyclic lateral movements of the pile may disturb and soften the near-field soil, and reduce the lateral soil resistance in the subsequent earthquakes. The research has enhanced our understanding of the shaking history effect on seismic response of pile foundation in liquefiable soil.
