RZD is planning to introduce 30 t per axle load on selected routes for transportation of coal and ore. The paper presents the design of the three-piece bogie for 25 t axleload and the results of its running tests that make it possible to resume that new design schematic provides serious reduction of track interaction forces. Implementing the same design schematic to 30 t axleload together with suspended roller side bearings allows to gain track forces within the acceptable limits. At the same time it is necessary to make changes in the construction and maintenance of track. The final part of the paper shows the economical feasibility of the project to increase axleloads up to 30 t in coal transportation between Kuzbass and Murmansk. Economical gains are resulting from lower transportation charges per wagon and in possibility to use the existing fleet of gondola cars for transportation of other loads. Extra expenditures include the purchase of new rolling stock, added cost of labor and materials for track maintenance. The calculation showed economical efficiency, stability and profitability of the project.
