Study on the Reasonable Utilization of Transboundary Water Resources and Environmental Protection in Southwest China

摘要

In recent years, transboundary water resources of international rivers have attracted global attention. Whereas in China, the study is at the initial stage. Southwest China is the area where high concentration of international rivers and headwaters of major Asian international rivers can be found. It enjoys abundant transboundary water resources and its water system evolution exerts widespread impact. Hence, the reasonable utilization of transboundary water resources and ecological protection will be of great importance for the southwest region, for China as well as the Asian continent. Integrated multi-disciplinary study on the reasonable allocation and utilization, sustainable maintenance and ecological conservation of transboundary water resources in Southwest China, undoubtedly, will offer scientific grounds for the formulation of transboundary water resources security strategies, promoting regional economic cooperation with Southeast and South Asian countries, reducing transboundary conflicts, protecting biodiversity and propelling socio-economic and ecological development in Southwest China as well.
