The safety assessment for a large dam is a complex problem that needs to be compared, analyzed and evaluated comprehensively by the combination of organically monitoring effect variables from different positions of dam. For this reason, the theories of statistics and modern mathematics are adopted in this paper to propose comprehensive assessment models for a large dam safety. The former can set up an assessment model on the relation of physics and mechanics of monitoring effect variables, statistics principle and monitoring information. The latter can establish an assessment model on the basis of modern mathematical theory, system engineering method, experts' knowledge and monitoring information. These two assessment models can be considered as new effective approach to the comprehensive assessment for large dam safety.
