INTRODUCTION OF MEASURES TO ENHANCE SAFETY AT THE ARMENIAN NUCLEAR POWER PLANT

The Armenian nuclear power plant (NPP) is one of the plants built in the 1960s and 1970s according to the model of Units 3 and 4 of the Novovoronezh NPP, i.e. a first-generation plant with WWER-440/V-230 reactors. A special feature of the site of the Armenian NPP-the seismicity of eight points on the MSK-64 scale (seismic intensity scale, Medvedev, Sponhauser, Karnik, 1964)-was the reason for the fundamental design changes made, not only in the construction of the plant but also during operation, as a result of which the reactor was given the new designation, V-270.
