A Sloshing Design Load Procedure for Membrane LNG Tankers

To meet the requirement for changes in the design and operation of LNG carriers DNV has undertaken an investigation into determination of sloshing loads for membrane type tank containment systems. The results are used to establish first draft sloshing load formulas intended for preliminary design and for the purpose to define needs for rule development. An example of application of the formulas in studying the feasibility of offshore discharge of a conventional size membrane LNG carrier is also included.
