The powerline channel is unstable due to variance of impedance caused by turning on or off the appliance connected to outlet. It is always time varying resulting in a multipath channel that is caused by reflections generated at the cable branch point. This causes many errors in powerline communications. We firstly analyze the error characteristics of the powerline channel. Coding techniques are considered using these characteristics to improve BER performance. Furthermore, the BST-OFDM scheme is where the frequency band is divided into sub-bands according to the different characteristics.
