How to apply remote sensing (RS), global positioning system (GPS) and geographic information system (GIS) to the analysis and management of mining subsidence land is a key problem in regional sustainable development. A practical framework is proposed in this paper. RS can be used to extract subsidence land in mining areas, and three approaches: post-processing to RS classification results with support of GIS, dynamic identification by multi-temporal RS information fusion and direct extraction based on GIS and domain knowledge are put forward. GPS can be used to capture spatial information about subsidence land, and two approaches are used commonly. GIS is able to manage, analyze and process multi-source, multi-temporal information and provide decision-making support for subsidence land reclamation. The applications of GIS can be realized from four levels. The integration of RS, GPS and GIS and their applications are the most significant and potential directions in the near future.
