Mathematical General Systems Theory and Information Systems

摘要

This paper asserts that the MGST(mathematical general systems theory) can be a "Unified Modeling Language" of information systems. The MGST uses the set theory to describe a system while the conventional UML uses diagrams. The set theory is more powerful and more precise than diagram descriptions. Furthermore, a model specified by the MGST can be implemented on a computer in the extProlog which the authors are developing. In this sense the MGST provides a formal and operational semantics to an information system. This paper demonstrates the assertions using a data mining system as a nontrivial example.
